Street in Tbilisi named after Russian journalist

One more street has been renamed in Tbilisi. The Novorosiisky Street has been named after a Russian journalist, Olga Konskaya, who died a while ago. Georgian president, Mikheil Saakashvili attended the presentation today. The husband of the late journalist, Andrey Nekrasov was also present at the ceremony. Andrey Nekrasov and Olga Konskaya shot a documentary about Georgia-Russia war, which described the chronology of war without bias. Olga Konskaya died briefly after the movie was presented. Tbilisi City Hall made a decision a few days ago to rename the street in Tbilisi`s Gldani-Nadzaladevi district and name it after Olga Konskaya.

Russian Occupants Burnt Down Khasaia’s House in Village Nabakevi

Russian occupants burnt down Ruzgen Khasaia’s house in village Nabakevi, Gali region. InterpressNews was told about it by Abkhazian media centre. Khasaia’s family left village Nabakevi several days ago and moved to Zugdidi. According to the current infomratin, they left Nabakevi due to pressure from the occupants and the separatists.

Fuel Crisis in Akhalgori

There is shortage of fuel in Akhalgori. InterpressNews was informed about it by Ahalgori’s population. ‘Representatives of the local government had to visit Tskhinvali today to celebrate day of Russian Public Unity, they were not able to get fuel and at last gained patrol from the ambulance car’, – population of Akhalgori stated. As they explain, it is impossible to bring large amount of patrol from Georgian side, and inclement weather hindered them to bring patrol from Tskhinvali. Tskhinvali-Akhalgori road becomes blocked after rains.

Robbery in Village Otobaia

Armed formations robbed family of Goderdzi Kvitaia and Alma Takalandze in village Otobaia, Gali region.
InterpressNews was informed about it by Abkhazian media centre. About 10 armed people attacked the family yesterday at 10pm. The attackers took jewelry, house appliances and money from them. The armed people loaded about 1 tone of nuts in their car and fled to undisclosed direction.

Grigol Vashadze’s Statement on Refusing Russian Citizenship

Foreign Minister of Georgia, Grigol Vashadze wrote letter about refusing Russian citizenship. Minister told journalists about it before governmental session started today. He says that he is not going to preserve Russian citizenship. He wrote letter on behalf of president of RF. He enclosed Russian passport to the letter. The statement is sent to Russia.
‘Despite the fact that Russian Duma doesn’t intend to deprive me of the citizenship, I’m not citizen of Russia’, – Grigol Vashadze states. Ekho Moskvi informed that member of fraction ‘Just Russia’, Semion Mogdasarov expressed his concern on the session of Duma, on ‘Foreign Minister of Georgia having Russian citizenship and at the same time trying to establish charter with anti-Russian character’. The deputy demanded to discuss the issue of revoking Vashadze’s citizenship. Russian Duma didn’t support the deputy’s initiative to discuss the issue.

Grigol Vashadze – No Negotiations held on Opening Larsi Checkpoint

Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze made comment on Larsi checkpoint. As Vashadze stated, negotiations don’t take place on the issue. Only one meting of experts was held over the technical issues, namely with Armenian side – mediator between Russia and Georgia. Grigol Vashadze says that there is large economic benefit and no danger in Larsi checkpoint.

Walter Kälin to visit Tskhinvali

Representative of the Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons Walter Kälin will visit Tskhinvali on 5-6 November. Official web page of UN reports about it. Walter Kälin will be introduced to the condition of refugees after conflict of 2008 and 1990. he will meet representatives of Tskhivnal mode, refugees and other caste of society. Representative of the Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons will prepare reportt on the outcomes of the visit and present to Human Rights Council in 2010.
