Armed Abkhazians took building of Highest Council of Abkhazian autonomic republic. Chairperson of the Highest Council – Jiuli Shartava and his companions were taken hostage and they were shot later. Military confrontation in Abkhazia lasted 13 months and 13 days and ended on 27 September, by defeat of Georgian Armed Forces. Government of Abkhazian self recognized republic celebrates day of Abkhazian Independence annually on 30 September. More than 10 thousand soldiers and civilians from Georgian side died in Abkhazian 1992-1993 war. 300 000 Georgian refugees from Abkhazia were left homeless.
