Countries who tried to lobby the stronger support for Georgia and condemn Russia's agresssion:
UK, Poland, 3 Baltic states, Sweden and Germany (!)

They were opposed by Silvio Berlusconi, and Denmark, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Hungary and Bulgaria.
Italy was insisting to condemn also Georgia and it is good that this position finally failed.

France as EU chairman was trying to put both positions together.

I think results are better, than could be expected. Especially it insists that Sarkozy plan is still breached (apart what Berlusconi was insisting on) and says that Russians should withdraw.
EU is not going to give up (and plan to visit to inspect) and would come back to issue again on 15th.
Also EU states can have their own position and undertake their own measures within the frame of current decisions. This enables EU countries to lobby some kind of regional partnership organization with strong ties with EU (EU members).
