Bush Condemns Russian actions

The United States condemns the decision by the Russian President to recognize as independent states the Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. This decision is inconsistent with numerous United Nations Security Council Resolutions that Russia has voted for in the past, and is also inconsistent with the French-brokered six-point ceasefire agreement which President Medvedev signed on August 12, 2008.* The six-point agreement offered a peaceful way forward to resolve the conflict. We expect Russia to live up to its international commitments, reconsider this irresponsible decision, and follow the approach set out in the six-point agreement.

The territorial integrity and borders of Georgia must be respected, just as those of Russia or any other country. Russia’s action only exacerbates tensions and complicates diplomatic negotiations. In accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolutions that remain in force, Abkhazia and South Ossetia are within the internationally recognized borders of Georgia, and they must remain so.

A very interesting news fact appeared on one of the major networks last night. Russia’s Stock Market has fallen 25% since the start of their aggression against the Georgian Nation and the FREE WORLD!

Drink now Russia from the ‘WELL of FORTUNE”

It will be quick to become dry!

This trend may be temporal. Depends the west would go further than words or not. do not mean nay military action but diplomatic or legal levers… discussed number of times so would not list here…
Just one thing – Russia is not SU. Russian authorities do not love to be really isolated and prefer to send children to Cambridge, Harvard or Sorbonne and hold money also outside Russia. They are vulnerable.
Putin just gambles bluffing. He is sure, that The West would never go beyond strong words.

    Lord Vader,

    I agree with your observations.
Much is yet to unfold and much remains to be seen.
My heart goes out to the Georgian People. And I have little hope that the good people who are Russian and have aspirations of regaining some sense of respect for their nation would make their voices heard and demand that their leaders embark on an honorable path. Some ethnic Russians were observed protesting the acts of aggression by the Russian Nation and a few leaders have also voiced their displeasure. These voices tend to be ignored or silenced though.
