Correspondent of “Moambe” news program of GPB (Georgian Public Broadcasting) Tamar Urushadze has been just slightly wounded, presumably by sniper shot in live broadcast near Gori.

Tamar Urushadze is slightly wounded in the left hand.

Gates: Russia must step back from aggressive posture

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Thursday that if Russia doesn’t step back from its “aggressive posture” it will adversely affect U.S.-Russian relations for years.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates says Russia’s actions in Georgia threaten its relationship with the U.S.

“The United States spent 45 years working very hard to avoid a military confrontation with Russia,” he said. “I see no reason to change that approach today.”

The U.S. military has sent humanitarian relief to Georgia for residents displaced by the fighting. In addition to a flight that landed Wednesday evening, another C-17 flight of relief supplies arrived in Georgia on Thursday. Read more…

Members of Congress Call on IOC to Strip Russia of 2014 Russian Winter Olympics

U.S. Reps. Schwartz, Shuster Call Russia’s Invasion of Georgia Unacceptable

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) and Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), the Co-chairs of the House Georgia Caucus, announced their intention to introduce a resolution when Congress returns to session calling on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to find a new venue for the 2014 Winter Olympics, which are scheduled to be held in Sochi, Russia.

The resolution states that the Russian Federation’s invasion of the Republic of Georgia, a sovereign and democratic nation, on the eve of the 2008 Summer Olympics makes it an unacceptable host for the 2014 winter games. It further states that the location of Sochi, a mere 20 miles from the current conflict zone makes it a practically unacceptable location for the Olympics and that had the (IOC) been aware of these circumstances at the time of awarding the games to Sochi that they would not have selected it as an Olympic venue. 19:35 German television ZDF journalist reported that they were eyewitnesses how Danish journalists were robbed of the car and cameras by South Ossetian separatists.

19:10 Russian army deployed additional troops to Zugdidi and began strengthening checkpoints and positions around and in the town.

18:30 The acts of atrocities and looting were reported from village Dzevera, Kareli district. Lootings by soldiers were reported from the ground.

18:15 Russian troops entered village Agara in Kareli district. Lootings are reported from the ground.

Two Turkish Journalists were wounded in conflict zone

Two Turkish Journalists were wounded in conflict zone. The Turkish embassy in Russia stated the following.

The first secretary of embassy declared that wounded journalists had been taken from conflict zone to N. Ossetia and then back to Turkey.

Health condition of wounded journalists is stable.

Mikheil Saakashvili – Turkey Supports Georgia in Construction of Country

“Turkey will support Georgia in construction of the country”, – The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili stated the following in the joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan held today.

Mikheil Saakashvili thanked the PM of Turkey for its peace mission and support.

Russia: Forget Georgian territorial integrity

GORI, Georgia – Explosions were heard near Gori on Thursday as a Russian troop withdrawal from the strategic city seemed to collapse. A fragile cease-fire appeared even more shaky as Russia’s foreign minister declared that the world “can forget about any talk about Georgia’s territorial integrity.”

The declaration from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came simultaneously with the announcement that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was meeting in the Kremlin with the leaders of Georgia’s two separatist provinces. Read more…

Russian occupation forces violate the ceasefire again

On 14 August 2008 Russian occupation forces once again violated the ceasefire agreement and did not let Georgian police units into the town of Gori.

According to the available information, armoured vehicles have been introduced into Gori again and the town is being mined. Peaceful citizens of Georgia and foreign journalists trapped in Gori face a real threat, as Russian servicemen do not let them out of the town. Several buildings in the town are burning. Real humanitarian catastrophe is looming as a result of Russian aggression. Read more…

Russian Militaries Stationed in Military Port of Poti

Russian militaries have stationed in the territory of the military port of Poti. It is the territory where the several military ships were exploded yesterday. According to the released information, military ships are supposed to be exploded today as well.

Russian military units stationed in territory of the entrances of Poti and Nabadi. As for the rest territory of the city, Russian tanks are not stationed there according to existed information.

Georgian Villages in South Ossetia Burnt, Looted

(Java, August 13, 2008 ) – Human Rights Watch researchers in South Ossetia on August 12, 2008, saw ethnic Georgian villages still burning from fires set by South Ossetian militias, witnessed looting by the militias, and learned firsthand of the plight of ethnic Ossetian villagers who had fled Georgian soldiers during the Georgian-Russian conflict over the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

Condoleezza Rice, PM of Turkey and Angela Merkel expected to pay official visit to Georgia

Reportedly, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is expected to visit Georgia in the nearest future. Moreover, PM of Turkey arrives to Georgia tomorrow, while German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay official visit to Georgia next week, German online issue sueddeutsche.de reports in that regard.
